As one of the most well-loved desserts around the world, Basque Burnt Cheese should be on the list of everyone’s go-to flavour. For this recipe, it can be smeared onto 8-10 pieces of bread. Things that can be used include:

Ingredients:

Cream cheese (100 gm)
Cheddar (2 pcs)
Evaporated milk (40gm)
Caster sugar 40gm
Unsalted butter (20gm)
Egg yolk (2)
Essence vanilla (1/4 teaspoon)

Step 1: Using low heat, heat the cream cheese, cheddar, and milk until the cheese is melted. Always stir to avoid burnt cheese.

Step 2: Add sugar. After the sugar dissolves, add the butter, stir until the butter is well blended and add the egg yolk. Stir constantly until the batter thickens like custard.

Step 3: Turn off the heat and add the essence. Stir again. Then, sweep the custard over the bread.

Step 4: Arrange in a baking tray and bake at a temperature of 200°c for about 10min or until the topping looks charred. Ready to serve!

A little reminder, do not bake the bread too long, or the cheese topping will dry out. How much to sweep the cheese custard on the bread depends on your preference. The thicker the custard the tastier it is!
