This bakery has been around for a century and that’s exactly 100 years old in 2019. Can you even believe it? They have been baking fragrant banana cakes for 100 years. This means if you make a stop here, you’ll get yourselves slices of iconic banana cakes that are baked over a charcoal-fired stove. The result? Soft on the inside, fragrant banana cakes. Definitely feels like home upon the very first bite.

This humble little store by the roadside may be missed out by some but if you’re attentive, you’ll be able to spot countless orange bowls on display. In them is porridge that is silky smooth and disintegrates completely upon the first spoon. You’ve got to pair this simple, smooth porridge with their sides; salted egg, peanuts, anchovies and some greens for a full-on, out of the world, porridge experience.

Salahuddin Bakery is one spot that has a wide array of traditional Indian pastries. Having been around for 80 plus years, its pastries are baked with tradition: an unaltered, passed down, generational recipe as well as a 66-year-old oven that stands the test of time. You’ll be able to try all their decade-old pastries at less than RM 5. Known as Raja Roti JB, you’ll be missing out if you don’t visit this place.

We all know Curry Mee and Laksa but did you know that in Johor, they have Curry Laksa? And this place, known as Water Works does Curry Laksa the awesome way by allowing patrons to add their preferred ingredients in them. You’ll get a bowl with tau pok, fried fishcake slices and fried bean curd slices. The best part is that the curry is aromatic and has a perfect blend of coconut milk in it. Try this Curry Laksa and you’ll never go back.

Are you guys ready for fun things that you can do in Johor? You guys should totally take a stroll around Danga Bay. Danga Bay is the largest recreational park in the city, with a 450-acre wide space housing a beach, a mall and a THEME PARK! This means visiting Danga Bay is gonna be totally worth it as you can firstly stroll along the beach, shop in the mall and then go crazy for adventure in the theme park. Doesn’t this already sound like a good plan? You can spend an entire day here, no problem.

Head over to Pasar Karat for a ‘pasar malam’ experience where you can shop for cheap clothes, cheap food and EVERYTHING cheap! Also, this place is the perfect spot if you’re looking to up your bargaining skills. Did you know there’s also a barber shop here? How cool is that?

10. Check Out Jewelled Crown @ Istana Bukit Serene

Next, the attraction that you must check out while in Johor is the Johor castle that has actual jewels embedded into a replica of Johor ruler’s crown. Time to get starstruck! This bejewelled crown located at the main entrance is atop two crisscrossed arches. Remember to take some pictures while you’re there, it’s not a common scenario to see real jewels AND A CROWN! Oh, and here’s a tip: the palace is not open to the public though you can walk around the entrance and snap pics with the crown.

Finally, the one thing which we’d highly recommend you to do during your Johor vacay is none other than visiting Malaysia’s first international theme park; Legoland. Johor is renowned for this theme park as the entire building is themed Lego! There are up to 40 exciting rides that adventure and fun enthusiasts should not miss out on. Did we mention that there’s also a water park? This means time to get splashy!
