Daging Harimau Menangis Recipe: Make This Viral Dish At Home

Hello Foodies! If you all know, the viral “Daging Harimau Menangis” or Sua Rong Hai is a Northeastern Thai local food cooked from beef, flavored with spices, grilled, sliced into small pieces, and served with special sauce. “Harimau Menangis” meat is the part on a cow that is so tender and juicy yet it is hard for a tiger to reach hence the tiger cried for not being able to taste it. Highly addictive and super easy to make, you can easily find all the ingredients you would need to make this dish at your local grocer!

Ingredients:

Beef (thin slices) (500g)
Crushed garlic (4 cloves)
Crushed black pepper (1 teaspoon)
Salt (1 tablespoon)
Oyster sauce (4 tablespoons)
Fish sauce (3 tablespoons)
Sweet soy sauce (3 tablespoons)
Brown sugar (4 tablespoons)

Step 1: In a bowl, combine all the ingredients for the marinade and whisk together. Then add beef, marinade and toss everything together, making sure the meat is coated thoroughly. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours (or overnight, the longer the better!).

Step 2: Remove the meat from the fridge 30 minutes before you plan to start cooking so it can warm slightly. In a large skillet, add cooking oil and heat over medium-high heat. Place a few slices of beef into the pan in a single layer, laying them flat. Cook on one side for 1 to 2 minutes, then flip them over to the other side and cook for another 1 to 2 minutes. Do these in batches until you’ve cooked all your meat.

Quick info: The meat also can be cook in the oven, non-stick magic pan, or air fryer!

Ingredients (Thai-style sauce):

Crushed garlic (6 cloves)
10 crushed chili
Oyster sauce (3 tablespoons)
Fish sauce (2 tablespoons)
Brown sugar (3 tablespoons)
1 thinly sliced ​​onion
2 slices chili
1 lemon juice
Finely sliced ​​coriander leaves

Step 3: Combine all the ingredients above and match all the flavors to your taste.

Step 4: Plate your “Daging Harimau Menangis” and serve right away with a bowl of hot rice or make lettuce wraps.
