5 Easy Durian-Infused Recipes That You Need To Try Making At Home
All these stay-at-home days may have led to one thing binge-eating Durian like there’s no tomorrow. Nowadays, because of Durian season, you can easily find it sold in stalls, supermarkets (or just as easily purchase it online), and while it’s great to add to your meals, we wanted to share easy recipes using Durian that are perfect to whip up at home for quick flavourful meals. Let’s dive in!
5 Food Ideas You Can Make With Durian!
1. Serawa Durian
Of course, it would be a shame if we have to throw away the most delicious fruit in the world. Once you’re satisfied after eating it, you can still enjoy it in a different way. Get ready for Serawa Durian!
Ingredients:
Durian (2 – medium)
Coconut Milk (2 Cups)
Salt
Sugar (1/2 Tablespoons)
Pandan Leaves (2 Pieces)
How to make:
Put durian, coconut milk, and pandan leaves in a pan. In medium heat, stir well. Add a pinch of salt and keep stirring until cooked. The durian will dissolve by itself. Serve with bread or Roti Jala!
2. Durian Fritter
Apart from being the dessert, Durian can also be used as a snack. Durian fritter sounds perfect on rain-cold weather. Pair these with local Teh Tarik for a complete tea break!
Ingredients:
Durian without seed – (2 Cups)
Wheat Flour (1 1/4 Cups)
Sugar (1/2 Cup)
Condensed Milk (1 Tablespoon)
Baking Powder (1 Teaspoon)
Baking Soda (1 Teaspoon)
Water (3 Tablespoons)
Salt
How to make:
Mix all ingredients except water until thoroughly combined. Then add water little by little. Heat the oil, bring the dough into a pan and fry until golden brown. Ready to serve!
3. Bingka Durian
The Asian in each of us is apparent by how much we all love Durian. Time to break free from the usual Bingka that we’re accustomed to eating, and give Bingka Durian a try. Not only is it easy to make, but it’s also very delicious too!
Ingredients:
Durian without seed (1 Cup)
Coconut Milk (1 Cup)
Water (1 Cup)
Evaporated Milk (1 Cup)
Salt
Eggs (2)
Sugar (1 Cup)
Wheat Flour (2 Cups)
Yellow coloring
Sesame seed (garnish)
How to make:
Blend all ingredients except for sesame seeds. Put the ingredients into a lightly oiled mold and sprinkle the sesame on the top. Bake in the oven for 180c until cooked (1 hour). Cool, ready to cut and serve!
4. Durian Crepe
Why not try making Crepe Durian? This recipe we’re about to share can make 20 pieces of crepes. You can always make this simple crepe that is both delicious and filling!
Wheat flour (30 g)
Custard flour (15 g)
Tapioca flour (50 g)
Water (50 g)
Milk (65 ml)
1 egg(s)
Sugar (1 Tablespoon)
Oil (1 Tablespoon)
Whipping cream (300)
Durian
How to make:
Mix wheat flour, custard flour, tapioca flour, sugar, egg, milk, oil, and water (100ml) until it becomes a smooth batter. Then, run the batter through a sieve. Once the batter is mixed well, pour a thin layer onto a non-stick pan which has been heated on medium heat. Remove crepe skin once it solidifies. Beat whipping cream until stiff. Place 1 tablespoon of whipped cream onto the middle of the crepe skin followed by a spoonful of durian. Wrap to create the shape of a fluffy “pillow”. Serve chilled.
5. Durian Pizza
Who says Pizza can only be topped with meat and chicken? It is also a good combination with the sweetness! This sweet and savory meal is easy to whip in the kitchen, so you can make it at any time with minimal ingredients!
Ingredients:
Durian without seed (50 g)
Plain pizza crust
Whipping cream (11g)
Custard powder (1.25g)
Cream cheese (22.5g)
Mozzarella cheese (30g)
Sugar (30g m)
Fresh milk (30g m)
Butter (0.75g)
A pinch of salt
How to make:
1. Add custard powder, 3g of sugar, and whipping cream smoothly to the fresh milk and cook the white mixture for 5 minutes. Leave to cool.
2. Blend the cream cheese, 1.5g of sugar, and butter into a creamy mixture with the help of an egg whisk.
3. Mix the durian flesh, the white mixture from step 2, and creamy mixture from step 3 well into a thick and smooth durian mud. Spread it evenly onto the pizza crust. Sprinkle some salt.
4. Top the pizza with shredded mozzarella cheese (keep a small fraction of it for step 5). Bake at 200 degrees C for 7 minutes until heated through.
5. Spread the remaining mozzarella cheese over the topping, and use a kitchen torch to make the top golden.
