Breaking News: Movement Control Order From 18th To 31st March (6 Things To Know)

Hello, Malaysians. Despite trying to be really optimistic, it is a fact that 2020 didn’t really kick-off on a very high note. Of course, one of the biggest issues in the world right now is none other than coronavirus. In case you missed out, coronavirus is visible in 135 countries, 162,711 are confirmed positive, and 6,443 has passed away due to the disease.

Official: Movement Control Order

In Malaysia, the number of people who are tested positive for Covid-19 is ever-growing. Just last night, there are 190 cases, with a total amount of 553 people with coronavirus. As many as 511 people are currently being treated in hospitals, and 42 people are now cured of the virus. Due to the increasing numbers, the government has decided on having Movement Control Order from 18th to 31st March 2020. Here are the six things you will need to know.

1. No mass gathering

First and foremost, no mass gathering will be allowed during the period. This includes religious, sports, social, and cultural activities. With that said, all houses of worship and business premises should be closed except for supermarkets, public markets, grocery stores, and convenience stores selling daily necessities. Specifically for Muslims, the adjournment of all religious activities in mosques and mosques including Friday prayers is in line with the decision of the Special Mental Health Committee meeting on March 15, 2020.

2. No traveling abroad for Malaysians

Apart from no mass gathering, Malaysians will be banned from traveling abroad. For Malaysians who have just recently returned from overseas, it is a must to undergo a health check followed by a quarantine (or self-quarantine) for fourteen days.

3. Restrictions on the entry for tourists and foreigners

Of course, there will be restrictions on the entry of all tourists and foreign visitors into Malaysia.

4. Closure on schools

All types of schools including kindergartens, government and private schools including daily schools, boarding schools, international schools, tahfiz centers, and other primary, secondary and pre-university institutions are required to close during the period.

5. Closure on public and private higher education institutions.

The closure has also been extended to public and private higher education institutions and skills training institutes nationwide.

6. Closure of all government and private premises

Additionally, all government and private premises except for those who are involved in essential services such as water, electricity, energy, telecommunications, postal, transportation, irrigation, oil, gas, fuel, lubricants, broadcasting, finance, banking, health, pharmacy, fire, prison, port, airport, safety, defense, cleaning, retail, and food supply must be closed, too.

In the statement, it was further added that it is completely understandable that having Movement Control Order will interfere with our daily lives, but it is important to stop coronavirus from spreading. Additionally, it was mentioned that daily necessities such as food are more than sufficient in the country. With that said, stay strong Malaysians! We will always get through this, together.
